Well, I've known Matt for about 15 years now or so, and so I can probably tell you guys lots of stories about him to embarrass him, but I don't think that I want to do that.

We met in the sixth grade and we used to hang out at school and stuff, and we were friends but we still hung out at school and, you know, copy each other's homework every now and then. That was about it. And then we got to high school and we pretty much spent all of our time together ... at school, outside of school. You know, we'd like to do stuff like play video games, and play video games, and play video games. But we were best friends and times were good and stuff.

Then something happened and we grew up. Actually, we never grew up. But we got older and graduated from high school and went off to different colleges. I started seeing less of Matt. And then something else happened while he was at college. He got a job working at The Disney Store in Northridge. And so before I knew it, he tells me that he has this girlfriend that was working there named Kathy.

I was happy for him but in the back of my mind, I was thinking, "Wow, am I ever going to see this guy again?" Here we hardly see each other as it is and then now he's got this girlfriend and I thought it'd suck since she'd kind of occupy all of his time.

But Matt actually kind of would arrange it so that he and me and Kathy would kind of hang out. And it was, you know, fun and stuff. I mean, I was at first ... like I said, I thought he'd never see me again. I thought that basically I was going to lose my best friend. But after getting to know Kathy and hanging out with her and stuff, I realized I never lost a best friend. In fact, I gained a new friend because Kathy's really the kind of person that when you know her, you gotta love her. She really is a wonderful person.

You can tell how a guy feels about his girlfriend or fiancee or whoever by what he tells you when she's not around - when it's just you and him, and you know no one else is going to hear it. And when I heard the stuff he was telling me, that was when I knew he was completely, totally in love with Kathy.

And Matt, I don't think that I've actually ever told you this before, but you're like a brother to me. You're the closest thing I've ever had and probably the closest thing I ever will have.

And Kathy, you've really become a dear friend to me.

And, um, I'm kind of nervous but I'm honored to be up here giving this toast, helping to celebrate your wedding and your new life together. I wish you guys a lifetime of happiness and I kind of wanted to end the toast with something special.

I guess it's a Japanese tradition that after a toast, the person giving the toast will raise their glass and yell, "Bonzai!" and I guess the crowd will repeat it, yelling pretty much as loud as they can. And we do this three times. This is to project joy and happiness onto the couple. So, I'd like to do that now ...
