Reel Gem Review - Stitch! The Movie

Synopsis:

Despite the fact that Stitch saved Earth and his o'hana in Lilo and Stitch, he still doesn't feel that he fits in among the residents of Hawaii. Lilo explains that everyone is family and that they are all "cousins." When Gantu returns to kidnap Jumba for the evil Dr. Hamsterviel in order to gain access to Jumba's previous 625 experiments, it is up to Stitch to rescue these "cousins" with the help of Lilo, Nani, David, Cobra Bubbles, Pleakley and even the Grand Councilwoman. Each are contained in small round capsules, which transform to creatures with Stitch-like qualities when they come in contact with water. This movie serves as the basis for a new television series that will air on the Disney Channel and ABC Saturday Mornings.

Review:

I was sooo looking forward to Stitch! The Movie. I really enjoyed Lilo and Stitch and I wanted to see even more of Stitch because he was such a great character. Unfortunately, Stitch! The Movie didn't live up to the expectations I had for it. Many of the new characters were silly and annoying, like the villian Dr. Hamsterviel and Experiment 625, who has all of Stitch's powers but is lazy and only makes sandwiches. And Nani apparently didn't learn her lessons from the first movie, telling Lilo to stay at home by herself when she has to go to work. It was only one of the repeated things from Lilo and Stitch that was done poorly. I also didn't like that they re-used the badness level again. Not necessary.

Not everything was bad in Stitch! The Movie. I liked how they incorporated the characters from the first movie into this one, even minor characters like the guy with the ice cream cone. That was cute. I like how cute the house is, that it was the same way as it ended in Lilo and Stitch. It was nice to see how the rooms are and to see where Jumba and Pleakley are staying. I also like the fact that in all of these experiments how you can see a little bit of Stitch in each of them. It makes a good transition into the TV series that they have to find all of these other experiments.

If you liked Lilo and Stitch or plan to watch the new TV series and want to find out what it is all about, go ahead and rent Stitch! The Movie. You might want to save your money instead of buying it though.
