FLIK'S FUN FAIR -- Inspired by the characters and settings from the Disney/Pixar animated film, a bug's life, Flik's Fun Fair will be a place for youngsters and their parents to experience the world from a bug's point of view and enjoy five brand new themed attractions

'a bug's land' Featuring 'Flik's Fun Fair' Newest Addition to Disney's California Adventure Opens October 7

ANAHEIM, CA, September 17, 2002 - "a bug's land," designed specially for kids, will open October 7, 2002, in Disney's California Adventure park, bringing with it the "Flik's Fun Fair" area of all-new attractions.

"Flik's Fun Fair" will be one of three key areas in "a bug's land," along with the existing "It's Tough to be a Bug!" show and the "Bountiful Valley Farm," with new bug-themed entertainment and landscaping. "a bug's land" will become the fourth land in Disney's California Adventure at the Disneyland Resort, joining the Golden State, Hollywood Pictures Backlot and Paradise Pier lands.

In "a bug's land" and "Flik's Fun Fair," inspired by the Walt Disney Pictures presentation of a Pixar Animation Studios' film A Bug's Life, kids can experience a fun-filled world from a bug's point of view. The "Flik's Fun Fair" environment features attractions designed especially for young children and their families.

"It's a place where everyday items from the human world take on huge proportions," explains Barry Braverman, executive vice president and executive producer, Walt Disney Imagineering. "Imagine garden hoses, pebbles and stalks of clover towering overhead. Abandoned umbrellas have become circus tents and fast food containers whisk you off on an exciting ride."

"We've recreated the world of A Bug's Life, where being small is big fun," says Kathy Mangum, vice president and executive producer, Walt Disney Imagineering. "Kids and their parents will be able to enjoy some really unusual adventures in this environment."

Disney Imagineers worked closely with John Lasseter, Pixar's executive vice president of Creative, on the concepts and details for the new attractions in "a bug's land." These will include:

  • "Flik's Flyers," Flik's whimsical bug-size hot air balloon ride fashioned from leaves and empty food containers;
  • "Tuck & Roll's Drive 'Em Buggies," a crazy drive-it-yourself bug car ride under "P.T. Flea's" circus tent;
  • "Heimlich's Chew Chew Train," a miniature railroad ride with the ever-hungry caterpillar Heimlich as he meanders through a land filled with giant pieces of candy and food;
  • "Francis' Ladybug Boogie," a lively ride on spinning, dancing ladybugs; and
  • "Princess Dot Puddle Park," a water playground with a giant-size garden hose, sprinkler nozzle and leaky spigot.

Cynthia Harriss, president of the Disneyland Resort, stressed that continued growth is a key element for Disney's California Adventure which, with the opening of "a bug's land," will offer a variety of new attractions and entertainment. "Since the opening of the theme park in February, 2001, we have added 'Who Wants To Be A Millionaire - Play It!' and celebrated the return of the beloved 'Disney's Electrical Parade,'" she commented. "What Walt Disney said about Disneyland park applies to Disney's California Adventure as well: it will continue to grow and to add new things as long as there is imagination left in the world."
