This map provides an overview of the Disneyland Resort's Downtown Disney. Our trip begins in the west by the Disneyland Hotel and continues east towards Disneyland Park. Click here for a larger, more detailed map.

The entrance to Downtown Disney via the parking lot off of Disneyland Drive. To the right is the ESPN Zone and to the left is the Rainforest Cafe.
This is the entrance to the ESPN Zone at Downtown Disney. There is a restaurant and bar area downstairs, as well as a gift shop. Upstairs, there is a wide variety of sporting games including air hockey, simulated race car driving, mini-bowling, rock climbing and biathlon. The games cost "points" to play, which are deducted from a pre-paid card.
This is a look at the inside the ESPN Zone. This is a studio they have above the entrance on the second story. ESPN Zone has television sets throughout showing sporting events and news. Up Close, an ESPN program featuring one-on-one interviews with the top newsmakers and celebrities in the world of sports, is filmed at the ESPN Zone with host Gary Miller.

Another look at this area of Downtown Disney. ESPN Zone is on the left of this picture, not far from the towers of the Disneyland Hotel. Rainforest Cafe is on the right.

The fifth Rainforest Cafe to open at a Disney resort (two at Walt Disney World, one each at Disneyland Paris and Tokyo Disneyland), this incarnation is designed to look like a Mayan temple. Inside is a gift shop filled with plush animals, books and apparel. There are large aquariums and waterfalls as well. My wife and I tried to eat here a week before Downtown Disney officially opened and were told that the wait was 2 1/2 hours. Quite a popular spot, it seems. During the day, a bird show in front of the building attracts many guests.
