Taking a look back down Hollywood Boulevard toward the entrance, we can see one of the period cars, among other things. Occasionally, some of these vehicles were used by the street actors portraying different citizens of Hollywood.
Here is a closer look at some of those buildings in the above picture. Hollywood Boulevard is neither as long nor as wide as Main Street in the Magic Kingdom, helping to create a more intimate feel to the park.
Yet another view looking back toward the entrance, this time showing more of the opposite side of the street. The Keystone Clothiers building pictured previously is at the right side of the picture.
A closer view of Pluto's Toy Palace. This building features a few more reminders that this is Disney's version of Hollywood, with Pluto on top of the building, along with the Mickey watch sign.
Here is something that you didn't see very often, especially during the early years of the park - an almost empty Hollywood Boulevard. This was taken in the early morning, and the sign at the left is pointing out some different breakfast options. Of course, less than an hour after this picture was taken, the street was full of guests.
At the opposite end of Hollywood Boulevard from the entrance is the Hollywood Brown Derby restaurant. This restaurant is a re-creation of the famous Hollywood landmark, and the Florida version has always been a popular dining spot.
At the end of Hollywood Boulevard is the Chinese Theater, an exact re-creation of yet another famous Hollywood landmark. At least the facade and lobby are an exact re-creation. The building serves as the entrance to the Great Movie Ride, a fun and technologically advanced trip through some of the greatest movies ever made. This version of the theater has been a stand-in for the real thing in several movies and television shows.
A closer view of the Chinese Theater. Rumors abound that the Great Movie Ride and/or the Chinese Theater will be removed to be replaced by some new attraction. But really nothing helps set the mood of Hollywood more than the Chinese Theater.
A look up Hollywood Boulevard today. The large sorcerer hat was constructed for the 100 Years of Magic Celebration, but it looks to be a permanent addition instead of just temporary. Unfortunately, the hat blocks the view of the Chinese Theater, making Hollywood Boulevard seem just a little bit shorter and cramped than it did before. - Story and Photos by Steve Burns E-mail Steve at steve@startedbyamouse.com, discuss this article in the StartedByAMouse.com Disney Discussion Forums or use the Talkback feature below. |
