Adventureland Photo Tour

A while back, we started a series of pictures from around Walt Disney World, and the first installment was on Main Street, USA. Since it is an occasional series, I guess this is as good an occasion as any, so we will move along to Adventureland. On almost every trip to the Magic Kingdom, I visit Adventureland first, right after walking up Main Street. I was a little surprised that I didn't have all that many pictures of Adventureland, but here's a sampling of what I have.

We'll start off with the entrance to Adventureland. As you cross the bridge into this section of the park, the sign overhead helps to set the mood of the land. The tribal drums and spears let you know that adventure is waiting for you. Plus, all the thick vegetation tells you that you are no longer on a street in a turn-of-the-century town. Note the bamboo theming on the trash can in the picture.

Just to the right after crossing the bridge to Adventureland is the former home of the Adventureland Verandah restaurant. For many years, this restaurant was a popular place with guests. I always enjoyed stopping in for a teriyaki burger, which was a hamburger with a wonderful sauce on it. There was some indoor seating, but I always enjoyed sitting on the verandah, which offered an excellent view of Cinderella Castle. That was especially fun when a show was being performed on the castle stage. The doors are closed at the restaurant now, and the verandah is occasionally used for character greetings.

Moving further into Adventureland, we encounter the Swiss Family Treehouse. Many guests pass by this attraction, probably because it doesn't provide any great thrills, although it does offer some great views of the Magic Kingdom, such as the one below of Cinderella Castle and some of the Adventureland buildings.

Wandering through the treehouse, you can see how the Robinson family survived after being shipwrecked on an island. And you can hear the bouncy sounds of the Swisskapolka.

A general shot of Adventureland, showing the overall feel of the area, at least the way it was before Aladdin moved in.

Another rather general shot. The building to the left of the picture is part of the Enchanted Tiki Room. To the right, almost out of the picture, is a snack bar, which I believe was once sponsored by the Florida Citrus Growers.
