Stars and Motorcars Parade

One of the new parades for Walt Disney World's 100 Years of Magic celebration was the Disney Stars and Motorcars parade at the Disney-MGM Studios. This parade was meant to be reminiscent of Hollywood motorcades where movie stars would be paraded down the street on their way to a movie premeire. But in this parade, all the stars were Disney stars (or had some connection with the park), and all the cars had some traits that related back to their passengers. Here is Part 2 of our look at the parade from a rainy day in the summer of 2002, along with some interesting enlargements from the pictures to show a little more detail. (Part 1 is available here)

Up next are Aladdin and Jasmine, with Aladdin gallantly holding the umbrella for the princess. Of course the car is really the Genie, and the passengers are resting against the Magic Carpet, who is along for the ride.

Hercules and Megara are next, also with Herc being the gentleman by keeping Meg dry. The car is decorated with ancient Greek designs and columns.

And in an enlargement from the above photo, you can see the hood ornament is actually a lightning bolt, no doubt placed there by Zeus himself.

Following close behind is Hades in a hot-rod limo that also resembles a hearse. Hades seems to be keeping a close eye on Hercules and Megara in the car ahead.

Next comes Stitch, in a car full of Hawaiian feel. The wood sides, surf boards, palm trees, and torches all add to the atmosphere. Lilo is evidently another casualty of the rainy weather, since she usually accompanies her alien friend.

And another interesting enlargement shows the tiki on the hood of the car, along with the surf board with the movie's logo on the front bumper.

Ariel is up next in her clam shell vehicle, complete with a large seahorse on the hood. Since she is a mermaid, after all, she needs no protection from the rain.

And here you can see a better view of Sebastian riding along beside her, waving to the guests.

Following Ariel is the Playhouse Disney car, full of characters that can be seen in the various Playhouse Disney shows. Most notable, of course, is Bear from "Bear in the Big Blue House". It is hard to miss a 7-foot bear.

Next is the fairest one of all, Snow White, sitting in front of a large mirror. Dopey comes along for the ride in this car fit for a princess.

And the hood ornament on Snow White's car is a golden apple, which is conspicuously missing a bite. Looks like the evil queen has been up to her old tricks.

And bringing up the rear are everyone's favorites - Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and Goofy, riding in style in a film-inspired classic limo. And this car differs from the rest in that Goofy is doing double duty as the chauffeur. A great end to a great parade!
