Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters

As part of Disneyland's 50th anniversary celebrations, Tomorrowland receives a brand-new attraction -- Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters. Located in the building that formerly housed the CircleVision theater, park guests are recruited as Space Rangers to help Buzz Lightyear defeat the Evil Emperor Zurg and stop his plan of stealing the universe's power supply.

Guests are boarded into XP-40 Space Cruisers armed with laser guns and are sent off to target Zurg insignias throughout the attraction to earn points. Using an Omnimover transportation system, the cruisers are constantly moving through various show scenes featuring blacklit characters and backgrounds. Guests can rotate their ships 360 degrees for better angles at the various targets, each worth a pre-determined set of points. Upon successful completion of the mission, guests can see their final point tally and the level at which they are ranked.

The attraction is an updated version of Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, which debuted at the Magic Kingdom of Walt Disney World in 1998. Tokyo Disneyland has a similar version to the one in Anaheim. Part of the attraction's enhancement will be a play-at-home feature that will enable people on the Internet to participate and affect point values of some of the targets that in-park guests are shooting at.

Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters officially opens March 17 but we were able to be a part of the attraction's soft opening.
