 Monopoly - The Disney Edition
Pokemon. Dot Com. Star Wars. Hawaii. Warner Brothers.
What do all of these names have in common? They are all editions of the popular Monopoly Property Trading Game from Parker Brothers.
There is a new Monopoly game that has just arrived in stores called Monopoly - The Disney Edition. And it is a lot of fun.
Instead of a dog, car, horse, hat, thimble, iron or shoe, the pewter pieces in this game are Disney characters - Alice from Alice in Wonderland, Dumbo, Mowgli from The Jungle Book, Lady and the Tramp, Peter Pan, Pinocchio, Princess Aurora from Sleeping Beauty and Snow White.
Alice in Wonderland, Lady and the Tramp and Mowgli are some of the pewter character pieces you can be when playing Monopoly - The Disney Edition.
Instead of houses and hotels, players can build up their properties with cottages and castles.
Just like in regular Monopoly, you roll the dice and move the pieces and gain properties. However, these are not ordinary properties. These are properties from famous animated movies. For instance, instead of Park Place and Boardwalk, they are Pride Rock from The Lion King and Dalmatian Plantation from 101 Dalmatians. In the original edition of the game, once you gain a monopoly you can buy boring houses and hotels. But in this game, you get to buy cottages and castles. In this game, there is no Community Chest or Chance but rather Magic Moments and Show Time. The cards are all related to Disney. One of my favorite sayings is "You are the fairest of them all. Collect $10" in place of the typical "You won a beauty contest" card of the original edition. The money, called Disney Dollars, has Scrooge McDuck pictured on it. How appropriate is that? I had so much fun playing this game (and not just because I won! ). It was fun to buy Disney properties that I was familiar with.
When I first heard about the Disney version, Matthew and I were trying to predict what it would be like. Although the pewter character pieces are cute, I thought what would be cuter would be for the top hat to be a pair of Mickey ears, the car replaced by an Autopia car, the horse could be Khan from Mulan, the dog - Pluto (he's my favorite), the shoe becomes Cinderella's slipper -- just to name a few. That would be my only change to this fun-filled game.
Monopoly is one of my favorite games. I am a connoisseur of Monopoly. I own the original, Star Wars and Hawaiian editions of Monopoly. I even have Monopoly on the Nintendo Game Boy and Super NES. I would have to say my favorite version is the Disney edition. Whether you have to pay Prince John a tax or Scrooge his, this game is a must for any Monopoly or Disney fan.
We found the Disney Edition of Monopoly at a Kay-Bee Toy Store at the beginning of July. The price was $29.95.
