Haunted Mansion Holiday CD

Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas asked the question of what would happen when two worlds collide. Steve Davison wondered what would happen if two Disney classics - Nightmare and the Haunted Mansion - collided. Like getting chocolate in someone's peanut butter or peanut butter on somebody's chocolate, the combination of the film and attraction wound up being two great tastes that taste great together.

Despite the corny analogy, Disneyland's Haunted Mansion Holiday has proved to be a crowd favorite since its inception a few years ago. Davison's overlay has created an annual favorite that guests flock to. The decorations, the theming and the attention to detail has satisfied both Nightmare and Mansion fans.

The attraction has also created a new line of merchandise for sale at the park. One of the most requested -- and highly anticipated -- items is the soundtrack to the Haunted Mansion Holiday. Collectors have gotten their wish with this year's issue of the CD. Early reports indicated that the park can't keep the soundtrack in stock, quickly selling out at shops, kiosks and through DeliverEars.

The 35-minute CD is comprised of 10 tracks, including a 16-minute mix of the ride's narration, songs and sound effects. The first eight tracks are some of the "Scarols" that guests waiting in line for the attraction can sing along with. Track nine is a medley of "Making Christmas" / "What's This?" / "Kidnap the Sandy Claws" from Nightmare Before Christmas re-done for the attraction. Below is the complete track listing:

  1. Up on the Housetop (2:07)
  2. Scary Bells (1:52)
  3. Over the Graveyards (1:40)
  4. Old Mansion Tree (2:01)
  5. Wreck the Halls (2:10)
  6. We Wish You a Scary Christmas (1:45)
  7. The 13 Days of Christmas (2:17)
  8. God Rest You Merry Grinning Ghosts (1:53)
  9. Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas Medley: Making Christmas/ What's This?/ Kidnap the Sandy Claws (2:30)
  10. Disneyland HAUNTED MANSION HOLIDAY Ride-Through Mix (16:20)

  11. Total Runtime - 34:39

This CD's pressing is of this year's version of the attraction and includes the new Oogie Boogie narration and storyline. The soundtrack's music is based on Danny Elfman's themes from the movie arranged, adapted and conducted by John Debney. Additional music is by Gordon Goodwin, with narration written by Davison and Carolyn Dawn Gardner.

This Buena Vista Records-released soundtrack is selling for $19.98 at Disneyland or through DeliverEars at 800-362-4533.
